Default Screen Printing

One of my childrens' favs is screen printing.

Most of you remember this from your gradeschool days. But you can do so much more with screen printing.

Keep lots of light card stock around in many colors. You can use tempera paints to start out and as you get better, use stamping inks. It soaks into the paper better and dries permenantly.

Supplies:

Piece of window screen attached to a frame that is about 3 inches high and 8 inches by 10 inches. This will allow for nearly any size project.

Newspaper (for under your project.)

Paint or stamping inks.

Old toothbrush...experiment with the stiffness of the brush. Soft works differently than hard.

Lots of cardstock.

DIRECTIONS:

1) look around for some interesting "stuff" around the house. EXAMPLE: For a boy, find different sizes of nuts and bolts.

2)Lay them out on a light colored card stock every which way.

3)Lightly dip your toothbrush into the paint/ink and brush over the screen frame.

4)You can layer colors. Experiment to find out what works best for you and the sky's the limit.

Enjoy! One of my daughter's ideas is to make lots of small screen paintings and put them into a collage frame. It looks wonderful when finished.
