Wink Traveling the US

When I was growing up, we always took road trips. They were awesome as we got to see so much of our country. One year we spent a week in my dad's boss' cabin in Daniel Boone State Forest! It was very rustic but beautiful! The cabin had a huge fireplace, outdoor plumbing (ugh), and a stream pipe. (Someone had run a pipe from a stream uphill so we had "running" water of a sort...<LOL>) The water was so clear and COLD! The first time I washed my hair at the pipe, I gave myself an "ice cream headache!" There also was evidence on the cabin and the outhouse of a bear marking its territory! again! One night, mom was reading by a lantern in the kitchen. She said she felt like she was being watched so she looked up toward the back porch to come eye-to-eye with a bear! I'm not sure who was more scared... <LOL> I remember mom yelling "Bear!" and dad jumping up off the couch (we slept around the fireplace). By that time, the bear was gone. That is only one memory from a great trip...

On subsequent trips we went to Cumberland Cap several times (I loved shopping at the Cherokee Trading Post!), Washington DC several time (my Dad's mom and one of his sisters lived in Arlington VA), Montgomery AL (one of Dad's other sisters lives there), as well as many other places. Most of the place we went to were in the south and had some great historic importance.

As I got older, I found that my personal trips began to take the same pattern -- including my business trips! I have been to San Diego CA, Seattle WA, Dallas/Ft Worth TX, and (among others) Washington DC. During my free time, I would try to visit as many places of interest that I could get to.

IMHO there is nothing like a road trip to see the USA!
