Default 2 hours MAX

My kids are only allowed to watch 2 hours a day MAX. I find they get so engrossed in TV they forget they have chores or homework and they can't watch any TV until they are done with their chores. Of course they have to watch approved TV shows but this is how I control how much TV they don't really need.

I wish I had stuck with that rule.
In the beginning when my youngest was younger... I enforced the 2 hrs of tv MAX. I also limited the time the kids were on the computer/playstation/video games.

Yr before last I found myself becoming tired all the time, lack of energy and it became easier and easier to let the kids watch tv than to get myself up to do things with them.
Then last yr I was diagnosed with cancer, went thru 3 surgeries and 6 months to recover. Dh of course handed them the remote and let them go *still monitoring what they watched*
Again... the kids watched tv to entertain them. It became a babysitter.
Now I'm paying the price. *as are they*
I truly think its an addiction.
I've noticed also when they watch a lot of tv, even if its appropriate shows, they just change and their brains become oogey. More whiney, irritable, lazy, lack of interest etc.

My advice is once you start the 2 hrs max, DON"T ever stop it!
This family is in for a rude awakening and some heavy withdrawls when I enforce the 2 hr max rule once again.
