Default "Criss-Cross Dough Basket"

Learn how to make your own "Criss-Cross Dough Basket"

All you need are a few ingredients and a little bit of elbow grease...

2 1/2 cups of flour
(put the 1/2 on the side for later)
1 cup of salt
1 cup of water
Water based varnish

Rolling pin
Old pie tin
Wooden Spoon
Tin foil
Paint brushes
Cookie sheet

Preheat Oven at 250 degrees

Mix contents until all ingredients are combined with a wooden spoon. From into a ball, sprinkle (clean) counter with flour. Drop (or place, I think dropping is more fun) dough on counter and knead for 5 minutes.

Once the dough is nice and smooth, flatten and roll out with rolling pin about 9 inches in diameter. Then, with knife cut into 1 inches long strips.

Cover old pie tin with tin foil, and weave strips in a criss-cross style. Like you were making a pie top. Careful not to make the strips too thin, once baked they'll break easy. The thicker the better.

Take an extra long strip and place on top of the outer edge of the
pie tin to cover the end strip. You can make this flat then with a fork you could make the little notches all the way around or If you have extra, take 2 and swirl them together and place on top.
Be creative!

Place on cookie sheet and put in oven for "4 hours"!!!
That's right 4 hours. Believe me it's worth the wait. Once cooled, varnish the whole thing (top & bottom).

You can put pretty ornaments in it, or walnuts as a center piece.
Or use to keep your Christmas cards use it as a center piece. It'll make a great conversation piece too!

Thanks for stopping and happy crafting!
